Russell Brand called George Bush a 'retard' at 2008 MTV awards

The 2008 MTV Video Music Awards took place on September 7, 2008.  English comedian Russell Brand hosted the event.  He made controversial remarks, which were not taken well by some in the United States.  He urged Americans to vote for Barack Obama and referred to President George W. Bush as "that retard and cowboy fella".  In repeat airings all references to John McCain and George W. Bush were removed from Russell Brand's opening monologue.  Times Online and Yahoo both wrote articles about it, but the links I tried are no longer active.  I wrote the following comments about it on a message board:

"I noticed that Yahoo called him the worst host, but I didn't look into why. This is a common theme among celebrities. I was thinking about the conventions and music. The DNC had a lot of top performers and the RNC was basically playing CDs. It is unfortunate that even music is so divided. Of course you have Ted Nugent and a lot of country singers.  This is what I wrote to my criminal uncle who supports Obama and thinks Bush is an idiot:
I know the President often has blunders. A funny example is when he was in China and tried to leave after talking to reporters and the door he tried was locked. As governor of Texas he was considered very eloquent. I think he gives good speeches (but he probably doesn't write them) and I think he responds well to reporters. The President has actually written three books: "A Charge to Keep" (1999), "We Will Prevail" (2003) and "George W. Bush on God and Country" (2004). He is the first President to have an MBA and it was earned at Harvard Business School.

Obama has actually made several blunders. He said he campaigned in 57 states and there were three he hadn't been in. In a speech on Memorial Day he said he could see many of the fallen soldiers. He said his uncle helped to free Auschwitz, but that was done by the Soviets and it was actually his great-uncle who was at Buchenwald. He was giving a speech in Selma, Alabama and said that the events there allowed his parents to meet and for him to be born. The marches from Selma to Montgomery happened in 1965 and he was born in 1961. In May 2007 there was a tornado in Greensburg, Kansas. In a speech Obama said 10,000 people were killed and it was actually 11. The Hanford nuclear site in Washington is used by environmentalists in the region to argue against nuclear energy. In a speech in Oregon he said he didn't know anything about it which bothered some environmentalists. While at a speech in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, the first thing he said was "Thank you, Sioux City." He said Iran was too small of a country to pose a serious threat and then later said for years he has been saying that Iran is a threat. Iran is actually the 18th largest country by area and slightly smaller than Alaska."
